Buena renamed and rebranded an impact-investing platform in eight weeks. Causeway went live with a waitlist and one promise: make your money fight for your causes.

Most people give to the causes they love and then, without knowing it, invest against them. Newday Impact set out to fix that, and on September 23, 2025 it reintroduced itself as Causeway, with a name, a brand and a website made by Buena. Eight weeks earlier, none of it existed.

The site opened with a waitlist and a headline that does the whole job in one breath: “Make your money fight for causes as hard as you do.”1

Your donations and your investments are on different sides

The problem Causeway exists to solve is simple to say and hard to see. People give to clean water and invest in the companies that pollute it. They march for the climate and hold oil in their retirement accounts. The money and the values almost never meet.

Causeway’s own numbers make the case. On its site, 77% of people are invested in ways that hurt the causes they care about, 68% of investors don’t know how to align their money with their values, and only 13% are offered impact options by their advisors.1

The company behind it had been called New Day. It was building something new: one platform to assess what you care about, line up your donations and investments with it, and follow the impact. It needed a name that said that, and a brand that could carry it.

A road across the water

On August 1, 2025, Buena took on the whole of it: the name, the brand, the pitch deck, the website and the experience of the app.

A causeway is a raised road across water, a way through where there wasn’t one. That is the job: connecting people with money to the nonprofits doing the work, so a good intention has somewhere to go. The logo came together between August 15 and 20. The team chose the mark that stood for connection and flow, a “C” drawn as fine parallel lines that sweep like a road bending across a bay.

The line work became the brand’s signature. Roads, hills, birds, a bonsai and a tidal ripple are all drawn in the same fine strokes, set against warm cream, deep forest green and a confident yellow. The photography is warm and human: people outside, mid-laugh, hands in the soil.

One word to hold it all together

Brand guidelines version 0.1 landed on September 2, 2025: identity, manifesto, tone of voice, headlines and a digital style guide. Some of the thinking came straight out of BuenaCon, the week in late August when Buena paused client work to rebuild how it works.

The guidelines open with a question. If the brand could own one word in the marketplace, what would it be? The answer was actionism. It has the teeth of activism without the polarizing edge, and it describes a process, not a slogan: assess your values, align your money to them, take decisive action.

The voice was set to five words: inspirational, authentic, bold, innovative, courageous. The headline bank was built for an audience the guidelines call actionists, people tired of promises and hungry for something real. It reads like a brand that knows how to smile: “Give long and prosper.” “Rise and align.” “Aligned, sealed, delivered.” “Capital with a cause.”

Six pillars, fifty-plus partners, one manifesto

Causeway organizes impact into six values-based pillars, each with its own color and line illustration: climate action, human equity, air quality, water quality, biodiversity and regenerative agriculture. A megaphone, a face, clouds, a water drop, a tiger and a sprouting plant make them easy to tell apart at a glance.

The system on one page: the mark, the palette, an app screen and the six impact pillars.

Behind the pillars sit the partners. At launch the site listed more than 50 vetted nonprofits, with keystone partners including the Jane Goodall Institute, the Norwegian Refugee Council, Outright International, VOW for Girls, the Savory Institute, the World Ocean Council and As You Sow.1

Then there is the manifesto, “Rise and Align.” It is written to run as a film over archive footage of marches and aerial landscapes. It moves from “We all care about something” through the reason causes win, which is people who are unified, to a turn: it’s really hard to align your money with your values. It ends on the reason for the company to exist: “Now, put your money where your heart is.”

The storyboard sets each line over a frame: civil rights marchers, a suffrage banner, an aerial river through a forest, a road across open water.

It closes on a causeway seen from above, the brand’s idea made literal.

Live in eight weeks, and built to grow

By September 19 the new causewayimpact.com was nearly done, and the soft launch with a waitlist was set for the following week. The site went live on September 23, 2025. The app lives on its own address, app.causewayimpact.com, kept separate from the marketing site for compliance.2

The site walks a visitor through three moves (hear from impact partners directly, support the ones you care about most, and follow the impact as partners post updates) and ends on one prompt: “It’s time to make your money matter.”1
