For Unlock Day we turned the 🔓 into something you could wear. Every unlock icon printed on a garment funds a month of education for someone in prison, so the price is the impact: a $1 tee with one lock, up to an $8,094 hoodie covered in them.

A shirt that works as a receipt for the education you paid for

Edovo's app brings free education to people in prison, and Unlock Day turned the 🔓 emoji into its symbol. We wanted a way for the people most committed to the cause to give more, and to show it.

People give more when they get something back, and more still when that thing shows what they gave. Most charity merch only says you donated; we wanted it to say how much good you did. So we made the clothes the receipt.

Every unlock icon printed on a garment funds a month of education for someone in prison. Count the locks and you know how many months of learning you paid for.

The Unlock gear lineup: tees and hoodies, each named and priced by its number of locks

Priced in locks: each piece costs as many dollars as it has icons

The collection put the price in plain sight. Tees and hoodies came at $1, $128, $160 and $266, and each carried that many unlock icons, so the number on the tag and the number on the shirt always matched.

The pieces were named for their numbers, like Two Sixty Six, and the icons ran across them as patterns and patches. The more you gave, the more locks you wore.

Every piece was a donation first and a garment second. Buyers were paying for months of education, and the clothes arrived as the thank-you, with the impact printed right on them.

  • Lock Shirt, $128

128 unlock icons: 128 months of education for people in prison.

  • Lock Hoodie, $160

160 icons, each one paying for a month of learning.

  • Patch Tee, $266

266 icons in patches across a white tee.

A hoodie made with artist Halim Flowers, priced at $8,094

The top piece, Eight Thousand Ninety Four, was made with Halim Flowers, an artist who spent 22 years in prison. His painting sits on the front of a black hoodie.

Around it are 8,094 unlock icons, one for every day he was incarcerated. They are arranged in 22 patches, one for each year, so the hoodie carries his whole time inside in small locks.

The donation is $8,094, and each icon funds a month of education, so one hoodie stands for 8,094 months of learning. It gave big donors a way to give that came with a story.
